Details
Lilaeopsis brasiliensis, a native plant of Brazil, grows both in and out of water along stream banks. It can form a green carpet of low-growing, dense foliage in the foreground of an aquarium if it gets enough light and CO2. It also needs regular doses of nitrate, phosphate, potassium and micro nutrients to flourish. It has a rhizome that produces compact clusters of grass-like leaves. A common way to plant it is to insert small bunches or clumps into the substrate in a staggered pattern, leaving some space between them. After a few months, the plant will cover the foreground area. It can grow too fast and need frequent trimming. The cuttings can be used to grow more plants in other tanks. It can also tolerate a bit of salt in brackish water tanks.
